Herb Details
Guayusa is a wild holly tree that is native to the Amazon Rainforest in South America, mostly in the country of Ecuador. The leaf of this tree has been used since ancient times by native tribes of the Amazon region as an energy stimulant due to the natural caffeine and alkaloids it contains. And although Guayusa contains caffeine, the natural levels of caffeine in it, along with amino acids such as theobromine and L-theanine allow for a slow and & steady release of caffeine to avoid the effects of a “crash” and help maintain longer lasting energy.
The indigenous people in Ecuador would originally chew Guayusa leaf for strength, focus, and a boost of energy – but it is also commonly consumed as a tea in nearby towns of the Ecuadorian Amazon as well, including Coca, Tena, El Puyo, and Lago Agrio.
This alkaline herb has deep symbolism for the people of the Ecuadorian Amazon, as they believe it promotes an awakening via lucid dreaming, helps you maintain a state of awareness, assists with dream interpretation, and offers protection to the people consuming it.
